Time : 55 minutes
Materials : Countries' instruction cards
Activity :

- Do you need more information in order to act out your role ?
- Why do you think the conflict in the ME continues ?
- Do you have any new thoughts regarding the role of global elements in the continuation of the ME conflict ?
Aims : Deepening our understanding of the complexity of the conflict ; discussing why and how the conflict continues, including the role of Europe and other global actors.
Time : 55 minutes
Materials : Countries' instruction cards
Activity :
- The class is divided into groups, each representing different actors in the ME conflict: Israeli Jews and Jewish people in diaspora, Palestinian Citizens of Israel, Palestinians from the Occupied Territories and Palestinian refugees, USA, EU, and the Arab Countries. Each group receives a country card (see Appendix) and they then have time for a discussion in small groups. The teacher walks around the class and gives guidance where needed. When they are done (or after about 20 minutes) the class starts the discussion, assuming that the countries are meeting in a conference where each of them has to present its position and explain the reason and backgrounds of their vantage point. (20 min)
- Discussion regarding the simulation : teacher asks :

Materials : maps of the ME, coloured markers, pens, magazines, coloured paper, scissors, tape, glue,...
Time : 30 minutes
Activity :
- The class is divided into groups of 6-7. Each group receives a map of the ME and art supplies (coloured paper, markers, pens, pencils, scissors, etc.) and is asked to brainstorm possible solutions for the conflict. They can use drawing, colouring, collage, or any other artistic form of expression. (10min)
- Back to the large group, each group presents their work to the whole class. After each presentation, the class can ask questions or comment on the work and the presenting group can answer. (7min)
Summary Activity
- The teacher should allow 5-10 minutes at the end of each workshops for a brief summary of the activity, plus time for questions. Questions which don't have a short answer will be written on one of the flip charts, to be addressed later on.
- The teacher reminds the students that they are invited to write their ideas, questions and new information they learn about the ME on the sheets that will remain hanging in the classroom until the next workshop.
