Materials : Simulation Cards - 1947
Time : 55 minutes
Activity :
- The class is divided into groups, each representing different actors in the ME conflict. The time is 1947, just before the UN resolution number 181 regarding the division of Palestine between Jews and Palestinians. The groups are : Palestinians, Jews, Europe, USA, USSR, Neighboring Arab Countries.
Each group receives instructions (in the card each group's position will be presented) and then groups have a small discussion.
After discussion and arguments preparation a simulation starts. Teacher walks around the class and gives guidance where needed. (10 minutes).
- Cut the discussion if it needed and ask what information participants miss, what they don't know, where do they feel weak. (10 minutes).
- Teacher ask : what would you have done differently in the simulation had you incorporated a consciousness of feelings, needs and values - your own and the other parties ?
- Do you have any new thoughts regarding the role of global elements in the development of the ME conflict ? (10min).
